CIHT Honorary Fellowship

Eligibility for the Award

CIHT awards a small number of Honorary Fellowships which are important in raising the profile of both the profession and CIHT. The nomination would normally be for a non-member of considerable eminence in the field of Highways and Transportation.

Honorary Fellowship is the Institution’s most senior grade of Membership and an Honorary Fellow should be prepared to contribute to the work of CIHT – because of status accruing to the Institution from association with their name, or by practical help.

Criteria for the Award 

The criteria are that potential recipients should be:

  • Of national or, preferably, international importance within highways and
  • Their status should be considered to be 'long lasting' – e. even after their retirement or (possibly) death, their name should have some resonance.
  • Capable and willing to make a personal contribution to promoting the work of CIHT and actively supporting CIHT events.

Generally speaking, Council is looking to make the award to those who have an exceptional record and have made an outstanding contribution to highways and transportation and whose contribution aligns to the strategic aims and themes of the Institution. The candidate will be expected to support  CIHT activities and should be prepared to participate in Institution events in the future.

Award process

Council is invited to propose prospective nominees for the award once a year.  Reasoned nominations will be considered carefully by the Honours' Panel who will recommend recipients to the Council for formal approval after reviewing the merits of potential nominees.
