Why Public Sector Professionals?

With Government funding being reduced and increased pressure to make further efficiency savings; it is no surprise that the public sector is shrinking. However, we recognise and value the vital role the sector plays in the highways and transportation industry. Therefore it’s crucial that we maintain high levels of skilled Public Sector Professionals and you can help us do that.

We are looking for professionals in the industry to join CIHT working from across all levels; apprentices, graduates, young professionals and experienced practitioners.

How can you help?

We would like you to speak to your highways and transportation colleagues who aren’t already CIHT members and highlight to them the benefits of joining the Institution. To make things easier we have listed the top three reasons why professionals in the public sector join CIHT:

  1. Qualifications and industry recognition - access to high status Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng), Engineering Technician (EngTech), Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualifications and the SoRSA Road Safety Audit Certificate of Competency. The right to apply these credits after your name assures global professional recognition and the opportunity to work anywhere in the world. Members also receive post-nominal letters to recognise their professional knowledge and experience according to their membership grade: Fellow (FCIHT), Member (MCIHT) or Associate Member (AMCIHT).

  2. Continuing Professional Development - Through a structured programme of frequent seminars, regional meetings, workshops and other activities, CIHT members continually receive guidance and support towards fulfilling personal career objectives. CPD is a core part of CIHT’s ethos and ensures members are kept up-to-date with all important new developments affecting the rapidly evolving transportation industry.

  3. Best practice - Best practice and technical excellence - CIHT uses its networks to collect and disseminate good practice to members, and to develop publications, technical guidelines and policy statements.
