Highways & Transportation Infrastructure Projects Honoured

Industry leaders, Senior Civil Servants, representatives from Local Government and statutory bodies attended the prestigious Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) Annual Awards. Taking place on Thursday June 13th 2019 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London they highlighted best practice, professionalism and excellence across the industry.

Welcomed by Matthew Lugg OBE, CIHT President, 2018-2019 to the 14th Annual Awards Dinner, the audience of over 400 guests celebrated the achievements of private and public sector partners in delivering complex projects across 16 award categories against three key CIHT themes: People, Better Places and Our Profession. The evening recognised winning, highly commended and commended entries and acknowledged the high calibre of all 150 UK and international submissions.

Matthew Lugg, CIHT President said:

“Our awards recognise the remarkable achievement of those working in highways and transportation. It is evident that highways & transportation plays a central and vital role in supporting a prosperous, equitable and healthy society. We are seeing recognition from government around our call for more certainty around funding of transport projects and maintenance of our transport assets at the national and local level. CIHT will continue to push for real delivery on the infrastructure projects that have been planned.”


CIHT Major Projects Award

This award is for outstanding examples of transportation projects that demonstrate they have been delivered on time, to budget and made major contributions to the accessibility and transport choices of the local or national community.

Belfast Rapid Transit - Glider Service, Department for Infrastructure and Amey - creating 26 km of a new sustainable public transport system and service to enable future growth as envisioned in Belfast City Council’s 2035 “Belfast Agenda”.

Andrew Hugill, Director of Policy & Technical Affairs, CIHT said:

“The Belfast Rapid Transit - Glider Service had a very strong articulation of the vision for the project. They have demonstrated a clear focus on the needs of users and adopted the use of sustainable practices. The service shows clear evidence of success against key measures and has a continuing focus on improving and evolving the scheme.”
