LTN 1/20 Cycle Infrastructure Design guidance

WSP and PJA wrote the Department for Transport’s new LTN 1/20 national guidance on Cycle Infrastructure Design, which is changing transportation practice across the UK. LTN 1/20 is a vital element in delivering the national vision that cycling and walking will be the natural first choice for many journeys. It resulted from collaboration with experts and stakeholders from across the sector and from a partnership approach between consultant and client. Drawing together UK and international best practice, this new guidance brings inclusiveness and innovations to the mainstream, to make good quality cycle infrastructure the norm that will benefit communities nationwide.

Shift|Trip National FMLM Toolkit  

WSP’s Shift|Trip National toolkit, initially developed for England's Economic Heartland, challenges the traditional methods to Transport Planning. It provides a unique approach to help users account for human behaviour around transport choice, particularly in the area of First Mile, Last Mile travel. This approach gives users a richer view of the potential mobility market of a locality, taking into account emerging and future modes and services. in doing so the toolkit allows decision makers to focus FMLM investment where it will make the most difference, providing the potential to achieve the most successful FMLM outcomes in the most cost-effective way.

London's long term planning scenarios

Transport for London (TfL) have built five scenarios of what London could look like following the pandemic. They consider a 2030 timeframe and all are plausible but in some cases, would significantly change the London transport market. By telling the stories of these scenarios, and quantifying their impact on multi modal travel demand using innovative techniques, TfL have provided an analytical framework to navigate the uncertainty of the future for the organisations recovery planning, investment decisions and appraisal during this particularly challenging period.

Transport for the North (TfNdeveloped an innovative Future Travel Scenarios approach to help understand, navigate and respond to transport uncertainties. 

The ground-breaking framework ensures that ongoing assessments of projects are rooted in evidence and insight into changing travel needs and behaviours. It helps Transport for the North better understand what future uncertainty means for their vision; ensures work remains agile; and gives confidence that they are on the path to better transport. It treats uncertainty as an opportunity, and replaces narrow forecasting with a vision-led ‘decide and provide’ method that sees transport investment with ambition and confidence.
