Collaboration in Action - A Southwest Journey

On the 1 July 2017 the Highways England South West Maintenance and Response (HESW M&R) contract went live and brought together the two previously separate operational areas, 1 and 2, into a single Southwest Region. Wiltshire Highways Service

Wiltshire Highways Service has always worked collaboratively. However, in February 2020, all partners committed to pushing the service to the ‘next level’ and a joint Collaboration Board and Partnership Charter were developed to identify whether further value could be gained.

Despite, or perhaps strengthened by, the need to work flexibly, and with agility to respond to the COVID pandemic over the last 12 months, the partnership has gone on to thrive.

The Board is already making progress towards formalising the joint collaborative working and wider stakeholders are seeing the service continue to improve as the relationship matures.

Vauxhall Bridge

In successfully delivering the Vauxhall Bridge Refurbishment Project, Eurovia, Ringway Jacobs, and Transport for London (TfL) and their specialist supply chain partners all worked towards a shared vision; ‘One Team’, which strengthened their ability to deliver – even given the challenges of 2020.

Working together, they delivered a project that adds value for TfL, and ensures a positive legacy for the local Boroughs and community on carbon reduction, active travel and community engagement. Creating ‘One Team’ has realised TfL’s vision for a safe and improved river crossing.
