Nick has worked in senior leadership roles in Highways England and its predecessors, Highways Agency and DfT, for over 30 years, managing the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of its Strategic Road Network. Nick is involved in both the highways and rail sector as he is currently working with High Speed 2, where he manages the impact of the HS2 and where it affects the operation of Highway England’s network and customers.

As a qualified highways design engineer, he is passionate about harnessing innovative design principles to create opportunities for all users of the road network - whether they be motorists, cyclists, pedestrians or equestrians.
He is also a keen advocate of stakeholder engagement, investing time to understand and meet the needs of local communities, key groups and influential individuals to win their support.
Matt’s broad-ranging experience extends beyond highways to the rail and wider construction arena, where he has operated across both the public and private sector.
Kevin Carrol is Divisional Manager for Ringway Hertfordshire with responsibility for 390 people, delivering the highway service in Hertfordshire from design and area teams, to the works delivery on site.

Throughout his career he has been involved in highways bringing collaboration, innovation and system development; from MOSS and LEAP5 during his time at Parkman, the installation of Confirm, GIS and integrated teams in Cheshire and the continued development of collaboration and the digital pathway through Confirm ARCView and ESRI whilst with Ringway in Hertfordshire. As a Chartered Engineer Kevin’s career has spanned 31 years in the Construction Industry both in the UK and overseas; 12 years with Parkman now Mouchel, 14 years with Local Authorities in Cheshire and the last 5 years working as a Divisional Manager with Ringway.
David is a Fellow of the CIHT with a strong interest in introducing new ways of delivering highways services across the UK. As a Business Director at Amey, he is responsible for the delivery of Amey’s highways business across the south of the UK and managing senior client relationships.

David gained a wide variety of experience before joining Amey, applying his knowledge of other industries to the Highways business unit. Starting his career in commercial disciplines before moving into operational and general management, he has worked across the construction, utilities and highways sectors. David’s collaborative approach means he often leads cross-sector projects at Amey, including being the Highways lead on Amey’s Smart Mobility group. Working with colleagues across Amey, Ferrovial and industry partners, the Smart Mobility group is focused on implementing innovative and disruptive technologies, and exploring how future mobility choices will affect our transport infrastructure now and in the future.
