Allyship has helped spread empathy and understanding across the business. It has had a really positive impact in enabling Atkins to develop a more inclusive culture which is currently moving us towards a better understanding of intersectionality and what it means.

Rebecca Crowther (FCIHT) is Atkins ED&I Lead for the UK & Europe. She is responsible for delivering the ED&I action plan #differentmakesadifference within region, working closely with staff networks, HR, project managers and business leads to drive long-term meaningful change towards our commitment to maintaining an inclusive culture where everyone belongs, can be their true self and develop their full potential. Rebecca’s technical background is in transport planning, working with private and public sector clients delivering development and infrastructure projects across the UK, including Heathrow Terminal 5 and developments on Regent Street in London. She is able to bring the skills, experience and business background that she gained during her 20-year career in engineering into delivering meaningful change in culture, through allyship. Rebecca is passionate about breaking down barriers and driving change internally and across the engineering profession
Spencer has worked in local and central government for over 30 years as a highway and transport professional. He is currently a strategic director at the London Borough of Sutton, with responsibility for a wide range of services and policy areas. As well as highways, transport and parking, he is responsible for housing, planning, building control, community safety, waste management, street cleansing, parks, regulatory services and Sutton's decentralised energy network.
Spencer is a Chartered Civil Engineer, Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. His former CIHT roles include trustee, council member, Membership Services and Skills Board chair and chair of the Network Management and Operations Panel. He is a STEM ambassador, an institution mentor and technical champion.
Having launched the Institution’s first EDI Charter as board chair at the time, Spencer is a long-standing champion for equality, diversity and inclusion across the sector.
Chrissy has worked across the Private and Public Sectors for over 25 years. Chrissy joined Sutton Council in 2014 and was integral in establishing a Management Support Service, tasked with providing quality administrative and executive support across the organisation.
Chrissy will join her colleague Spencer Palmer and share her inspiring experience in the London Borough of Sutton’s “Aspiring Leaders programme”, an experience that recognised her existing leadership qualities and gave her the confidence to realise her full potential.
Aside from her day-to-day activities at work, she coaches and mentors individuals in striving for both personal and professional growth. She is a Mental Health Champion Lead in the workplace and has been integral in the success of the Council's wellbeing strategy. On a personal level Chrissy is a keen runner and recently completed the London Marathon in October 2022, raising £3172 in AID of MIND charity.
