We are currently seeking applications for Senior Civil Engineers within Transport Scotland, Major Projects Directorate. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

Transport Professional Pay Supplement

This post attracts a £7,862 pay supplement per annum (pro rata).

Overview

Transport Scotland is the national transport agency, seeking to deliver a safe, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable transport system for the benefit of the people of Scotland.  Transport Scotland is accountable to Parliament and the public through Scottish Ministers, with a budget of around £3.5 billion per year. Transport is a vital feature of the Scottish Government's focus on increasing sustainable economic growth, and transport investments and policies have major impacts on our economy, environment, and society.

Responsibilities

The Major Projects Directorate within Transport Scotland is responsible for the design, assessment, promotion, procurement, and construction of major transport infrastructure projects included in the current Scottish Motorway and Trunk Road Programme and new projects emerging from the second Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR2). The Directorate also leads and advises on procurement and contract management matters for Transport Scotland.

The Directorate is currently responsible for the delivery of a number of high profile and technically challenging programmes and projects including the A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness Programme, A83 Rest and Be Thankful, and improvements to the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen. The Directorate is also involved in early development and business case work on Clyde Metro, Active Travel Infrastructure and Bus Priority on the Trunk Road Network.

To help us deliver our responsibilities we are seeking suitably qualified and experienced applicants to fill a number of senior grade civil engineering posts in the Major Projects Directorate. These are exciting and challenging engineering positions, contributing to maintaining our status as a Centre of Excellence for the delivery of major projects.

Essential Criteria & Qualifications

You must hold a suitable degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, and be a chartered member of an appropriate professional body and registered with the Engineering Council.

Essential Criteria

1.Experience in roads and transport infrastructure schemes in at least two of the following:

    • Scheme appraisal & analysis
    • Design
    • Scheme preparation/assessment
    • Statutory procedures
    • Procurement
    • Construction
    • Contract management

2. Ability to manage concurrent work programmes/projects.
3. Financial and Risk management skills.
4. Strong communication skills with ability to network and manage relationships with a range of internal and external groups, agencies, and individuals with an emphasis on customer focus.
