The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and our local Authorities serve a population of 1.4 million residents with a strong and vibrant business community.  The MCA is in a period of dynamic and exciting change with a new Mayor and senior leadership team. Having just secured the UK’s first Investment Zone as part of a major economic growth agenda, we’re charting a new direction. The Executive Director of Transport will join a high calibre executive leadership team with a career defining set of opportunities ahead.

We have a new vision for transport here in South Yorkshire and we need an ambitious far sighted leader to bring this to life. A candidate who can influence and shape the future direction on a local, regional, and national scale, and who already has strong credibility in the sector. This is an exciting and expanding role incorporating the responsibilities of the former passenger transport executive, the tram through a new wholly owned company and an ongoing bus franchising assessment.

The Mayoral Combined Authority is looking to recruit someone who wants to make a huge difference to the ability of all people of South Yorkshire to travel well: ensuring we have the rail network we need; developing South Yorkshire mass transit; improving and reforming the bus network; knitting an active travel network into our places; encouraging the use of sustainable modes of transport; achieving a net zero transport system; overseeing our capital programmes; developing a clear strategy for the future; and ensuring that everyone benefits through close attention to equality, diversity and inclusion. This will require an exceptional and motivated leader with extensive knowledge and experience in the transport sector and the ability to provide challenge and rigour to ensure South Yorkshire has a first class, innovative transport system.

The role of Executive Director Transport reports to the Chief Executive and provides visible leadership for transport in the region, securing investment and integrating functions which drive the development, delivery and safe operation of a sustainable, effective and efficient transport system for the people of South Yorkshire.
