CIHT North East & Cumbria and IStructE Northern Counties Region invite you to an evening meeting on Thursday, 28 November 2019 at 6.15pm
This presentation describes how railway design and construction was pioneered here in the north east of England to be the basis for their adoption worldwide. It identifies significant changes in design, construction and materials that have progressively improved railway civil and structural engineering over a period of almost 200 years, by visiting a number of major British railway construction projects and concludes with a brief look at works underway on the Chinese High Speed Network to provide a comparison of current practice elsewhere.
