DUBAI: This CIHT seminar from the new Dubai Group will set out the basis of Hyperloop’s technology, outline progress being made towards realisation in the GCC and focus on the route between Mumbai and Pune in India which is most advanced in moving towards a commercial proposition and delivery.

Hyperloop is a revolutionary new mode of transportation intended to move people and freight quickly, safely, on-demand, direct from origin to destination. Built in a low-pressure tube, pods accelerate via electric propulsion and travel above a track using magnetic levitation and ultra-low aerodynamic drag with drastically reduced travel times. Based on the concept "open-sourced" by Elon Musk, Virgin Hyperloop One, backed by Virgin Group & DP World, is one of the companies taking it forward to realisation, raising US$ 370 million in capital from investors.
Virgin Hyperloop One is the first company in the world to test a full-scale Hyperloop system, integrating components such as vacuum, propulsion, levitation, sled, control systems, tube, and structures. It is progressing studies in the USA, India and the GCC, projecting that a Hyperloop system could reduce the journey times between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to just 12 minutes, and between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh to 48 minutes, transforming the spatial economy of the region.

Harj Dhaliwal is Managing Director of Virgin Hyperloop One’s Middle East and India Field Operations. With over 35 years of civil engineering experience, he has held senior management roles in global client and consulting organisations, including the last 22 years in the development, delivery, and management of heavy rail, light rail, and metro projects across Europe and the Middle East. Previously, he was the Programme Director for the delivery and operation of the first national heavy railway in the UAE, Etihad Rail.
Harj is a Chartered Civil Engineer, member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Member of the UK Engineering Council, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Nottingham Trent University, UK. Harj is based in Hyperloop One’s Dubai office.
